안녕하세요?
Hello everyone!

I am a Canadian Citizen who is about to be wed to a wonderful woman from South Korea. ;D
After we're married, I'm interested in sponsoring my fiancee to live in Canada under the family class. But I have a few questions and I'm wondering if you can help me out.

1) For her visitor visa purposes, should we get our marriage certificate before or after she goes to Korea?

My fiancee arrived on a "free" visitor visa (because South Korea is a visa-exempt country). Something happened with her family back home so she needs to go back to Korea for about a month. We were planning to just have a very very small modest wedding ceremony at a later date, but now we're wondering if we should just get the marriage certificate before she leaves so that she won't have trouble getting another "free" visitor visa when she comes back to Canada.

2) After my fiancee returns to Canada and we're married, and once I begin the application for sponsoring my wife from inside Canada, is it possible for my wife to get an open work permit?

I've read a lot that this is possible for spouses of people who have a temporary work permit or spouses of international students but what about spouses of Canadian citizens? I couldn't find a definitive answer on this. As I apply to sponsor my fiancee/wife under the family class, I know that the entire process can take a long time if inside Canada. So, it would be beneficial to us if my fiancee/wife could work while we await the application results.

I really appreciate any help you can offer and I'd be pleased to hear your stories and experiences from any other Canadians with foreign spouses or any other Koreans out there.

감사합니다! Thank you!

Hi wondering if you've found the answer the question 2 as im very interested to know aswell...

my husband who is a canadian citizen got a job offer to work in calgary july this year (he has been living in new zealand...where we got married). I have a malaysian passport but im a new zealand PR. we want to begin the sponsorship process asap, but id like to know if there is any way of me getting to canada by july (and not having to wait for my pr process to be complete)...like a visa perhaps... have read that to apply for a visitors visa, you need to show you are leaving canada at some stage, which i cant provide as thats not the plan (i plan to live/work there with my husband)....

Well to answer some questions once you are married and she comes back from Korea its much harder to get hat visa as yes they want definate proof that you are leaving Canada after your visa expires if you get one at all.And even if your from a visa exempt country you still must prove your leaving after 6 months, you can apply for extensions.
And if you cant prove you are leaving you wont get that visa. You need proof even though you think your coming to stay for good as long as you are not a citizen or PR or even in process you must prove you are leaving.
And have a return ticket.
