안녕하세요?
Hello everyone!
I am a Canadian Citizen who is about to be wed to a wonderful woman from South Korea. ;D
After we're married, I'm interested in sponsoring my fiancee to live in Canada under the family class. But I have a few questions and I'm wondering if you can help me out.
1) For her visitor visa purposes, should we get our marriage certificate before or after she goes to Korea?
My fiancee arrived on a "free" visitor visa (because South Korea is a visa-exempt country). Something happened with her family back home so she needs to go back to Korea for about a month. We were planning to just have a very very small modest wedding ceremony at a later date, but now we're wondering if we should just get the marriage certificate before she leaves so that she won't have trouble getting another "free" visitor visa when she comes back to Canada.
2) After my fiancee returns to Canada and we're married, and once I begin the application for sponsoring my wife from inside Canada, is it possible for my wife to get an open work permit?
I've read a lot that this is possible for spouses of people who have a temporary work permit or spouses of international students but what about spouses of Canadian citizens? I couldn't find a definitive answer on this. As I apply to sponsor my fiancee/wife under the family class, I know that the entire process can take a long time if inside Canada. So, it would be beneficial to us if my fiancee/wife could work while we await the application results.
I really appreciate any help you can offer and I'd be pleased to hear your stories and experiences from any other Canadians with foreign spouses or any other Koreans out there.
감사합니다! Thank you!
