I'm a Canadian, my wife is Japanese. We are currently in Canada waiting for her Permanent Residency. Our two kids, who are 5 and 8, were born in Japan and hold Japanese passports, are with us in Canada and enrolled in school. We listed them on my wife's Permanent Residency application. Right now, I'm about to apply for an extension on my wife's vistor's visa as we wait for her PR to come through. Do I need to apply for an extension for them as well or are they considered Canadian?

They aren't officially considered Canadian until they have a Certificate of Citizenship. If you were born in Canada or became a naturalized Canadian before having your children, then your children are Canadian citizens and you should apply for the certificates immediately.

If they are Canadian, they should not have been listed as dependents in your wife's PR application. There is the possibility that CIC will return the application (I believe that happened to another poster on the forum who made the same mistake). If you're lucky, they might just request updated versions of the incorrect forms.

As canuck_in_uk mentioned above. If they are Canadians by descent, you do not need to list them as your wife's PR dependents. However they do need to be listed in IMM5406 additional family form under section B and IMM5481 sponsorship evaluation 6. B)
