I agreed with others, info-gc you have a great writing style - you tell your story with sincerity, poignancy, humility, and wry humor.

It is not about you telling us how much pain that you have endured but clearly this is a more contemplative and meditative way for you to express your life experience. We are here to listen.

Please continue. Many of us are interested. We after all became what can be called "extended family in a virtual form". We from time to time in the forum here learn, argue, listen, advise, and thank others for this invaluable connection.

Dear info-gc,
Please continue your story and I wish you all the best.
You are a polite person.
In no way the title of your thread was bad you did not say " Don't come to Canada" You said "please KEEP IN MIND there are no jobs". You reminded us about job situation from your experience. It can be different for another person and the best part is you never denied it. On the otherhand every time wishing good luck to the people criticizing your situation in this thread . You are not comparing your story with any others so just ignore the person/people who can't digest your opinion, you are not forcing anyone to believe you or take your view.
Anybody can take it or leave it.
As for rest of us we like to read, you have good writing style.
Not everyone's condition is same, luck, health situation, fund, opportunity, everything are different play differently for different person.
There is no competition going on in this forum, no need to show off that I also suffered and I am the champion now.
Some may suffer and become victorious and some may go down. It can happen in Canada or even in our homeland.
Info-gc suffered and that's a fact. Its 10 years from his life, that's a fact.
Info-gc, You have every right to say what you feel. I have no words to judge your story. If I don't like I would just avoid reading. I would rather go and read happy stories elsewhere.
Thanks for sharing your story and I want to hear a happy ending. Looking forward to that....

Dear Mr. Infogeek

your problems are not unique ..you may face the same problem anywhere in this world... and for that you are blaming the immigration systems..I am in Canada for the last two years.. before that i worked almost 8 years in USA .. i also lost my job ..i also struggled a lot ...but i never posted my worries and problem in a public board to demoralized others..

Your problems are nothing compare to those who suffer in Bosnia ,Iraq and Afghanistan ...you are very lucky to be in country where you are safe and you have freedom and more over a free health care.

I have no sympathy towards you and some body pictured you as a brave hearted because you are taking care of family and children.. What i felt is that in Canada its easy because they don't starve you to death...you get employment insurance and financial support for your children education education expenses

If you work in IT industry and if you are lazy guy and there will not be a Job for you .. you need to update you technology and you need to be very competent.. and try to be leader in what you do. I guess you are worried about more and more people coming to Canada . You have to compete with those new talent coming to the country. no other go.
If you want to succeed in life then you need to have more positive approach towards your life..

FAMILY LIFE AND RELOCATION 2005 -2006 - 2
================================================

Too much concrete, too many straight roads and featureless buildings, this must be the problem, I thought; people had grown concrete hearts. Lets move on, there are better places out there. Out West? The Mountains! The Lakes! The Trout!

I started emptying my apartment, getting rid of toys and furniture. A neighbor negotiated a price for my computer desk, but when the day came he asked for a discount. We both lost. The desk was scrapped. My mattress ($600 worth of hard earned savings) went under a deck in a friend's house and was destroyed by mice that same year. Not a problem, I could have never brought it along with me and I could not sell it.

In a few days all that I had could fit inside my car. This was the day to turn my back on this big ugly place. My overloaded car had some trouble picking up speed, stopping or turning but I was careful. The journey was memorable and I still had hope back then.

Mid July 2006; my EI benefits are about to expire. I am in my new home - a small place tucked in the hills. Finally some scenery! Now I can find my way around.

Receiving EI makes you eligible for a number of things including the Wage Subsidy program. This program basically pays the employer 1/2 of your wages. In other words the employer has a person for 1/2 price and the rest is paid by the government. You may say this is an unfair advantage to the other applicants. You are right but this is how it works.

Seeing my wage subsidy form two companies offered me employment (as a regular laborer, of course, not as an engineer)
Conditions at one of the companies were absolutely atrocious. They also asked me to buy my own tools - hammer, belt, whatever, so I chose the second company. It looked far more advanced and civilized and it was!

Hard work, but not too bad. I was handling huge aluminum parts, doing minor assembly work and gasket installation, kitting sets and sometimes sorting parts. Then I started a second job as a security guard to stay afloat. Sometimes the first job would offer me overtime hours and I would still do security work on the previous night. Yes, I would spend 10 hours lifting heavy parts, take a quick bite, spend the night at a site (Job2) and in the morning return to job 1.

I still do not know how a person can handle a security job. It was very tough on me, as I was always tired. There were only black thoughts running through my head. It is difficult to focus, difficult to think of something other than the lonely miserable situation you are in. But yes, some people have it worse. I could have been in Afghanistan.

In spring of 2007 my daughter was almost 2 years old and I had not seen her yet. The employer was understanding of my situation, and let me have my vacation plus a week of unpaid leave.

My daughter was doing fine, she had started to walk but my mother in law looked extremely lean, downright scary. While I was still there she lost her voice and was in 2 weeks diagnosed with cancer. When I had to leave this time, I was leaving her with my wife, and I knew that was the last time I see her. :'( She had made every effort to conceal her decease not wanting to bother anyone, She was still active and helping with groceries and the kids when I arrived. Was I to blame for her condition.....it could be me.

I came back to Canada and carried on with the crazy cocktail of job1+job2+fishing. One morning when I was just about to leave the site I have been securing all night a call came. It was my wife. Her Mom had passed away!
Well done,u r a great story writer.I can assume it is just a story but some one should give u a big prize for this story

Well Said!!! He is just a looser crying in front of everybody. If he did not get a reasonable job in 10 years, when will he get. In this span of time millions of people migrated to Canada. Almost more than 95% must be successful over there. He should overcome his shortcomings and re-think his overall situation and should come up with new personality.

May god bless him and his family.

I think he should close this thread and start searching a job with new energy!! If he did not get a job his kids will get jobs after few years. He should not be worried his future is bright!!

I am sorry if somebody didn't like it

Soon
Well why do we bother to lend ears for others' outcry if we can, why do we bother to try to change someone's negative thoughts to positive if we could help him/her to head off stress. Am very fond of reading in different catagories of books, since was young, devored the words from a variety of books.But my readings could not dominate me to become either a positive or negative person.I wouldn't be where am here today if the readings could influence me. But I am able to learn others' success or mistake without investing any value of my life. I have well equipped with strong enough endowments to critize the situation by myself, what is wrong, what is rtight, what is acceptable or not. IMO if someone is able to be easily influenced by readings or others' saying, he or she is a weaker, deficient in mental power.

Then human is a social animal, we all are Homo Sapien species, we couldn't survive alone, we have to help out each other as possible as we can since even though we are same species, we have different level of mentality, some are strong, some are weak, some need helps, some don't.We all may need the listening ears one day in life to pour out the feelings to someone who might be a friend, a family member, a stranger,etc,.... Why we bother to lend our ears to reduce his/her stress in lieu of let them bottle up inside.Let the people talking out their problems and help them in seeing these problems in different views might be better for both this person and for the society as well.

I never praise people without reason,there is always a sound reason behind what I say. But you are not me, you are unable to visualize my reason.

My perception might differ from yours, I would stand firm on the ground what I believe, but at the same time I would highly respect the different insight of you, I would never blame you for you can not see the things like me.I know well that I couldn't do to change the whole world to become a paradise.But in my deep layer of the heart, I wanna see the entire world be free form any suffer or else unless, at least each of everybody could have less stress and wanna see a change from a tragedy to a happy ending, from a negative to positive.

Thanks for all for sharing different views. Have a good weekend you all! am about to out for errand around the town such a beautiful day :)

Cheers!

=============================================
UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS - WORK RELATIONS 2006-2008
=============================================

When I started the light assembly job in my new town, I was all but sure they were going to exploit me for a few months and then take someone else with an active wage subsidy claim. This did not happen. I know how to use my hands and the parts were flying, accuracy and quality of work were good and in fact they had trouble finding another guy like me. To get good at it you need to be trained, so I had somebody who explain the procedures and work elements to me. That somebody was a relatively young lady from the US. She had moved to Canada and lived with her husband (a dentist) and her 2 daughters. Although there were rumours she was difficult to deal with, I found her a pleasant cheerful person, at least till, the second or the third month, when she kept on instructing me about things I already knew. I endured the abuse for a while, but eventually, I started disregarding the orders coming from her. She started complaining. I could see her walking up and down with smoke coming out of her ears. She kept on complaining over and over, till we were called upstairs by the supervisor, all to no avail. Next time I made a joke, the joke was reported completely out of context. The result was we both got formal letters stating we could be dismissed. I did my best to keep my distance but new problems were inevitable. Soon we were called to another meeting where we both defended our points. I was "released" and she was summoned to two more meetings and ended up in the oposite side of the plan where she found a boyfriend, left her husband and 2 kids, sold her property, bought a house and went bankrupt quickly after that. As a sign of faith to each other her and her boyfriend both tatooed their names on their bottoms. Eventually they left for the US and were never seen again. All this circus took less than a year and the first part left a bad taste in my mouth.

You can do one of these small jobs for a while but they become increasingly hard on your mind. Business was slowing down and one day I was given a rather unusual task. They wanted me to mount 10,000 screws on a piece of plywood so they could paint their heads. This chore took over two days of "screwing around" and going insane. The other guys were mostly young. They would come and go. Some had piercings, earings, died hair and strange looks but they all seemed to be knowledgable on the F and S words. They could not beat one of the supervisors though, as he was basically replacing every second word with f**k or f**king.
When a guy with a FCUK shirt showed up, he fitted right in.

Comsidering what was going on back home and the gloomy job, I had begun to feel rather dismal. The PR status of my family was about to expire, unless they reentered Canada by May 2008. I spoke with the supervisor and let him know I was not going to last much longer unless they did something. What they did was issue a promise that held no water. After two more months I asked them to lay me off. Well, technically they could not do that as they were still hiring people. So I had to take a leave of absense, see my family physician and get a note about my condition. The HRDC called me to confirm how I was and one more time I was put on an EI claim.

In the following months I started collected the needed documents and fill out the forms for a government program helping out-of-work individuals with their re-training.I had tried to to that the year before, but my timing was slightly off. This time the pieces came together smoothly and after my family (now 2 kids) joined me in May 2008, I qualified and was approved for the trainig program. The requirement was that I pay my first semester's tuition fees and all books during the two year term.

This guy never answered simple question: what has prevented him from going back once he realized that Canada was not what he expected it to be (or even worse than where he came from)?

There is a reason i asked him such a pointed question: i wanted to know if the poster is genuine.
Instead of giving a coherent, consistent with the circumstances he decsribes answer he replied with "dog ate my homework" kind of an excuse for an answer and thereafter avoided to address it altogether.

This poster is not worthy of wasting a time.

===============================================
HEALTH PROBLEMS 2008-2010
===============================================

My wife has colitus. It is not the end of the World by itself, but it comes with many complications.
She has trouble at work, going to the bathroom more often than a regular employee, she is discouraged to ask for time off to see her doctor and when she was supposed to see a specialist, she was put on a long wait list. The work environment in most companies is one of intimidation and constant fear. By her 12th month on the job, she was told she went missing too many times. They had counted every time she was late 5 minutes or asked for a doctors appointment, so when after 14 montsh she was called by the specialist, she did not go for fear of losing her job.

Her condition got worse and worse and her hands got covered by exema-like spots that itched and cracked, and bleeded and hurt. As we speak her whole body is covered by them. We went to a number of physicians with hopes, but in the end she realized she was paying hundreds of dollars for useless conversations during which she demonstrated she knew more about her condition than the physician himself/herself.

I am rather active in my spare time, which has been a lot in the past years; lots of hiking and fishing. One day at the lake while walking over some bumpy terrain my left heel started to hurt. I thought it was something minor and after taking off my shoes went wading into the lake.
The heel continued to hurt and swell. Now I could even feel there was something hard inside the tissue on the bottom of my foot. Strange!
They took an x-ray and I went to my family doctor to see what se had to say. She had the picture on her screen and started explaining to me that she could see calcifications on the bone. I said, the object does not appear to be connected to the bone. At this she turns the screen to me pointing at a thin lighter looking layer running along the bone; did she ever listen to my explanation?

I could clearly see the object I was looking for in the picure - an oval "thing" about 2cm in diamater lodged in the middle of the tissue. I raised my finger and put it on the object. Here!

According to her this was a non life threatening problem and although at the time I could hardly walk, she suggested I was going to wait at least 6 months to see a specialist. Then I waited and waited, and called again. The new estimate was 1 year. To make sure the object was not growing I did new X-rays.
After the year had passed I called my doctor to ask why noone had contacted me yet. They now said, with what I had the NORMAL wait time would be between 1.5 and 2 years. This now drove me nuts! I told them I should have known about that a year ago, and that I would want to see a specialist in another town in my province if possible.
Three months later someone calls me from a town 400km away. I was working on a contract then and could not go. Finally, after 1.5 years I am called and invited to the office of Dr.X. What I will write below is not a joke but the actual words I heard in the office.

The wait continued in the doctors waiting room for anoher 30 minuted after which I was admited into the office. There was the doctor and his new British assistant, probably a student, waiting for me. The doctor explained it was going to be his assistant to evaluate my situation after which we were all going to talk about it.

"Ok, so your right foot is hurt..." - starts the assistant
"No, my left one" says I
"Oh, it says right foot here!!!" - exclaims he pointing at the papers. "Can you walk?"
"Yeah, I just walked in."
"Take off your shoes, please, and take a few strides, how does it feel?"

I started explaining how and when I observed the bump on my foot, and what it felt like, and what I thought it was....I was providing more information than what I was getting back.
At the end the assistant called the doctor into the office. They exchanged purplexed looks.

"Lets take a look at the x-rays" - I suggested
They slowly brought the picture up on the screen and the doctor clicked on it. It did not enlarge.

"It is not working, must be the system" - says the doctor
"No, probably the computer" - offers the asistant

"My family doctor insists this is a calcification. D you know how something like this can be formed inside the tissue?" - asks me

"Well how do you tell the difference between bone and calcification?" - the doctor asks the assistant.
A second later he answered his own question:
"Both are calcium, right."

I left the office thankful I was not scheduled for surgery that day. Maybe they wer egoing to cut off my head instead of my foot, which wasn't going to be particularly bad if they knew how to fit me with a new and better one.

My inquisitive mind wonders if it is a heel spur??
This was the initial diagnosis. Could be it, but , I always thought a spur is something forming on the bone itself.
