:) Hello :)
I was hoping to get some advice here as I am trying to do this INLAND application alone and it's very confusing.

Our story;
I am 38, never been married and work in nursing and live in BC, Canada. My spouse is 50 never been married and lived in Germany. We met online in January 2011 via the game "second life". We spent every day together as "partners" online, chatting and instant messaging for about a year. We fell in love and decided we needed to meet in real life.

In August 2012 he came here for three weeks to visit me. It was a short visit as he had to return to work. Upon his arrival immigration gave him a paper that said he must leave on the date of his ticket, because he didn't come with a million dollars and because they said he had no ties to his homeland and they weren't sure he would go. He visited and things were great, and he left as required without any problem.

We missed each other very much and it was awful to go back to online life together. We decided that we'd like a longer visit together. He came back in Nov 2012 for three months. No visa or whatever, just his passport and ticket which was stamped with a date written on it for 6 months later. No paper this time. I became pregnant and we had argued quite a bit due to my stress and the language barrier, and I threw him out for a bit. I had a miscarriage and this brought us closer together and we decided we loved each other and didn't want to be apart.

We got officially married in Canada on May 1, 2013. My 12 yr old and 15 yr old children love him and love our new family. His passport was stamped for May 16th or so. I didn't realize that he must do something before that date to extend his stay, so I was just thinking I would sponsor him as my spouse as I am a Canadian citizen.

I have been waiting for the German papers for his police record and medical records, which have just arrived ;D and now I want to proceed with our application for his citizenship.

apparently I need to translate his German language police certificate, birth certificate and doctors notes? Anyone know where I can find someone to do that for a reasonable fee?

And the grand question (which I pray to God someone can give me) how (step by step) should I proceed and what are the costs? I have read it will be $1040 lump sum for the sponsorship app, principal app and right of perm residence?

any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated, I will be checking this thread like a mad woman anxiously hoping for a response.
God bless and thank you in advance. :)

xposted due to desperation. >.<

I would start by applying for a restoration of status. Right now your husband has no status in Canada / is in Canada illegally since the length of time he was allowed to visit has expired. You have 90 days from the time his status expired to file the restoration of status application.

You can read more about restoration of status here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5551ETOC.asp#restoration

To answer some of your other questions...

If you haven't already, I would recommend you read the first post on the link below. It will give you a good overview of the sponsorship process:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-t46995.0.html

Yes - the total immigration fees are $1040. However you should expect to pay several hundred more for other items required (e.g. medical, police certificates, etc).

He does not need a doctors note. He needs to have a medical exam complete by one of the physicians on the following list:

I found this at the top of the list of things to provide: Question 1
Type your universal client identification number (UCI).

I am confused as my husband does not have that. When he came to visit me in Canada he simply purchased a ticket and got on a plane with his passport. So I do not understand what they are looking for with respect to a UCI?

Sorry about that, I meant to say he did have a medical exam done in Germany before coming. I am a cautious person by nature. I hope it will suffice for immigration purposes also?

thank you again :)

The medical must be a medical for immigration purposes and must be with one of the physicians on the list I provided. A regular medical with any doctor will not suffice.

He won't have a UCI. You should indicate n/a.

Okay thank you so much, I will look for someone on the list and have that redone as well as apply for his status to be restored. I sure hope they do not say no at this point. Its so frightening!

FYI - he can have the medical done in Canada. No need to return to Germany.

thank you so much! I did find one within a 2 hour drive of my home that we can go to.
I will do the restoration thing first and then the medical thing.. I sure hope I can send the papers away soon, I read that the police certificate I just got in the mail will only be good for 3 months. so I guess time is of the essence also.

Hey there =)

I'm just making sure that the physician you found is one that's approved by the CIC? (they call it "DMP" ===> Designated Medical Practitioner)

Here's a list of DMPs in BC:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medicalinfo.aspx?CountryID=2042&ProvID=15210&ProvinceName=British%20Columbia&CountryName=Canada

Cheers ;)

Hi there fandv!
I did find one, thank you so very much for double checking :)

my next question is that im pretty sure someone mentioned that I may be able to send the papers in for sponsorship app and his application without him having the restoration of status if he stays in Canada.

can anyone confirm or deny this?

Im doing this on a pay as we go basis and that would certainly keep the costs down..

You can. But sending in the papers won't restore his status. He'll still be illegal in Canada. This isn't an ideal situation since CIC could ask him to leave (even with the application submitted). And if he's asked to leave after you file an inland application, it basically means the application is abandoned and you have to start all over again.

so could I send the sponsorship app and his app in first and then a month later send in the restoration of status request? I guess either way he could be asked to leave, from what I understand.

is doing it that way unheard of?

thank you for your help, I really do appreciate it ???
