If and when I get my PR card, what happens to my US passport? Even if I live in Canada as a PR, I can not get a Canadian Passport. So, do I need to keep renewing my US passport, or is there a procedure with my PR card if I decide to visit the US after I start living in Canada?

You keep your US passport, you don't lose your citizenship by becoming a PR or a citizen for that matter.

You will always be a US citizen - getting permanent status in Canada doesn't change that. After you've resided in Canada for three years you can decide whether or not you want to apply for Canadian citizenship also. The US and Canada both allow dual citizenship - so you can become a Canadian citizen without giving up your US citizenship, but you don't have to ever become a Canadian citizen if you don't want to.

In the meantime, your Canadian PR card only gives you access to Canada - all other travel will be as a US citizen on your US passport . . . so you will need to keep it valid. And you always have the right to travel to the United States - as a US citizen, not as a Canadian PR.

So I can have a US passport with my Canadian address on it, if and when I get my PR card? Sounds like when I do renew it, and I am then in Canada, I would still have to go, in person, to a post office in the states to renew the passport? Hmmmm....

I hope they have the capacity to renew it on-line for PR people in Canada by the time I get to Alberta...

I am sure the US has a way for US citizens who live in other countries to renew their passports. You can probably do it through the US embassy/consulates in Canada or possibly through the mail.
