Just got Passport Request from CIC but need to renew passport

Hey everyone,

I sent my application for study permit/student visa in June, got my medical done and the CIC website just sent me a passport request message this week. The thing is my passport expires in 2014 while my undergrad degree study is expected to take 4 years until 2017 and Canada only issues study visas for durations up to the expiry date of the passport (I only found this out after reading their message).

Is there anything I should be mindful of if I were to renew my passport before sending it to the VO to issue the visa? I am not sure if I will be issued a passport with a new passport number (I am concerned it might not match the number I provided during my application); would I have to notify CIC beforehand about my renewed my passport and possible new passport number, or do I just send the new passport to get the visa?

Anyone had a similar experience to this? Thanks in advance for any advice/input

No,need to notify CIC about passport renew. If you renew your passport your passport number will not be changed and even if you get new passport the number of your old passport will be written.

when u get the new passport just attach it with the old one and send both of them...they will issue visa on new one...
