does having a relative there help in anyway?
So far I have seen people relying on relatives in Canada and getting rejections. (obviously with exceptions)

You will anyways have to show him as your brother and provide his information in family information form if he is your immediate brother, but I would advice you to show your personal or your parents financial ability then having someone to sponsor you from there.

He's my brother-in-law by marriage to my first cousin sister. He suggested i should declare him although the finance proof is going to come from my side of course. Also my father has retired and although the finance is not an issue and we can pay upfront, however i hear it is advisable to present an educational loan.

Under SPP its mandatory and preferred option under Generic case.

So its advisable to go for it if possible.

The loan should be for my fees and survival for just one year or do i need for a second one also? The course is of two years and the tution fee for a year(2 sems) is $12200.

It should cover 80% of first years fees (minus first semester fees if already paid) + living expenses + traveling expenses.

8 lacs should be more than sufficient in your case.

Yours is a one year course right?

so a loan for one year is sufficent inspite of my course being of two years?
Quoting from the checklist:

  • AS A PREFERRED OPTION for proof of funds: A copy of an Educational Loan from an Indian Chartered Bank equivalent to at least 80% of tuition +living + travel expenses for one academic year (normally, first year’s tuition, unless already paid, plus $8000). See information on the next page for the list of acceptable banks.

oh ok. I may payoff my first year fees directly and the rest as a loan. Would you recommend that?
Its okay if you do that. But then show loan of around 5-6 lacs.

Since i will pay my first sem fees, this loan of approx 6 lacs, its not going to be an educational loan, what will it be?

First Sem or Year? You mentioned year in your last post.

Education loan includes your fees + living expenses as well thats the reason people pay first sem fees and take rest as loan.

I apologize, I meant year. If i do pay up my entire $12200 first year fees ( two semesters ) which is around 6.08 lacs, the remaining expenses such as my survival expenses, were I to take a loan for that, would it be still classified as an educational loan?
