Hi there,

I will be applying for permanent residence under common-law and in the immigration guide for my country it says "Send originals of the immigration forms (IMM forms) and original police certificates. Send notarized photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise".
I will be attaching copies of my phone bills and household bills (as proof of address), boarding cards (proof of visits) and copies of tickets to events that I attended with my common-law partner and am wondering whether these are considered as documents that would need the photocopies to be notarized? It would cost me a lot of money to notarize all this stuff.. I understand that a passport is a document so a copy would have to be notarized but what about the other things that I mentioned?

Can anybody help?

Thank you!

Here is another thread where some senior members explain it better than I can:

I thought the same thing at first and panicked - that's a lot of signatures! I thought I would have to pay for them too.

If you print a receipt, bill, or flight plan directly from the website where you bought it, it's 'original.' (Those are the only things I print in color.... so cheap am I.)

I am still getting my foreign documents notarized, although they are in English. I already made the appointment with the MLA for my area and she's doing it for free. Making a politican work sounds like a good idea ;) However, from what I understand, I don't HAVE to, this is completely my choice.

We notarized nothing and provided copies of birth certificates etc and all was fine!
