A friend of mine use to be a Border Guard and is now based at Seattle as a Nexus official.

She was telling me last night, how she frequently gets pulled at American customs and questioned by the Border guards to explain why she crosses the Border so much.

One IO, even asked her if it was legal, her working at the Canadian Visa office!!!!!!!!

So of all of you that have had trouble at the Canada/USA border....it appears you are not alone. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I had always wondered what crossing the border would be like for an IO. Whether they just waived through every time or if they were questioned the same. This was really nice to know though. At least they don't have too many privileges above us and scrutinized just the same.

Hahaha, wow!

Funny enough, I've never had a hard time with the Americans. In fact, they are usually very friendly and cheerful.

With the Canadians it's about fifty-fifty who are positive vs surly. Never got subjected to anything more stringent than them checking my trunk, though.

From what I understand this is atypical. Most people seem to have much more trouble with the Americans than the Canadians.

I know a woman who is into BDSM. She arrived back to Canada from a shopping trip in the US with her trunk full of whips and harnesses. The Canadian IO requested to search her trunk and upon seeing all the equipment exclaimed "So, you are into horses?". She just said yes. Easier than explaining :)

HAH!!!! That is awesome! I would totally have explained just to make the IO super uncomfortable.

I can just see the mastercard commercial: whips $150, leather outfit $80, awkward moment with border security... priceless!

That IO was either extremely dense, or very astute.

On some visits into the USA, the constant hassle endured at the border might require a full demonstration of the "horse gear" on the IO - LOL

Love this thread.Hunters being hunted ..that's the same kind as Border Staff being harassed by counter parts :) The last thing you want is your own staff questioning you about your border crossings which would be freaking hilarious...takers?

I'll humiliate myself for the thread...

I came in to St. John's, had been for a job interview and was lonely, so I had purchased a rather "Risque" magazine in Norway. WEll, since I also brought more than the limit of booze (a bottle for me, and another for the boss) that I also declared, they decided I needed "additional" checking. So as they go through my bag they find said magazine... And start leafing through it, saying stuff like "ohhh" and "Nice" then a lady from CBSA shows up, saying "Let's see!!" and I just turned more and more red... they were just giggling, and in the end I did not have to pay duty!

Cheers
Hagar.
