Hi guys,
I'm an MCom grad from India (with 2 years work exp as accountant) and recently finished Masters in Int/l Accounting and Finance at a university in Ontario and got my post-grad work permit.
Now, I need to start applying for jobs in Canada, I'm very new to the job market in Canada, and literally have no idea where to begin. I'm not sure about a few things:
a) I wanted to enroll into CGA program to have a better career in Canada, but right now I read that CGA Ontario has merged with CPA Ontario. Does that mean I must now pursue a CPA degree instead? And am I allowed to pursue CPA as an international worker in the first place?
b) What kind of jobs should I apply to? Some of my Indian friends in Toronto who did the same course at my university started working as bookkeepers. I feel that is very basic, and maybe I need to start with something better. But most listings online mention "Senior Accountant/Analyst, etc." where a professional certificate is preferred. So are there any other jobs besides "bookkeepers" that I could be eligible for?
c) Should I try to apply at banks or corporate companies like Deloitte, KPMG, etc.?
d) Should I approach job consultancies in Toronto to help me write a good resume and find relevant jobs?
e) Also, is it better to post resume on generic job-listing sites or go to individual company websites and apply there?
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you so much.
