Job opportunities for International Students

Hello All,
I've applied to Financial Planning course at Humber College. I'm from India, I have close to 3 years of work experience as an Analyst at an American Custodian bank. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Management (total number of years of education - 15). I'm also studying French and I have a basic understanding of the language.
As part of this program, I must do an internship for at least a month. I wanted to understand how hard is it for an international student without a Master's Degree (and a 15 year education background) to get a job in Canada after completion of a certificate program? Also I'm worried that I will not have enough time to get a job after completion of my course as I will be eligible for a post graduate work permit of just 9 months. Is it true that an international student must have a PR before applying for a job? If so, how can an international student get a PR without a prior job offer?
Can someone please tell me what are the general problems an international student faces when trying to get a job in Canada after completion of their course?

An essential part of a successful study permit application is the applicant's ability to prove his/her ties to his/her home country. With 3 years of overseas experience under your belt, how do you intend to prove that?

You CAN get job without PR as long as you have a valid work permit.

Oh, I thought you were working in the U.S. at an American bank. Well, you don't need PR to get a job. Might I suggest pursuing a Master's degree in Canada, finances permitting, of course. This way, you won't need a job offer to apply for PR.

You will need 1 year experience to apply for PR other than few provinces which have the nomination program where you just need 6 months of experience before applying for nomination.

On the other hand, PhD students can apply for PR after completing 2 years of their degree.

Where does it say one needs work experience before applying for PR via Ontario PNP? As far as I know, if you meet their educational criteria, you don't need any workex to apply for a nomination and subsequently PR. You just need a job offer in NOC 0,1,2.

I did mention about nomination program but sorry to forget that it varies between provinces. For Ontario PNP, you have to have a prospective employee who will have to play part in the nomination too. So all in all, job is needed. I am not THAT much knowledgeable in PNP programs but as far as I know, there are limited number of nomination quotas so I doubt whether or not every applicant will be given a nomination. And for normal PR process without any nomination, you will need a degree and a year experience to be eligible for PR.

Once again, I am not much knowledgeable about every PNP in Canada. I only tends to care about Alberta's since that's where I am and will try to be

In order to apply to Opportunities Ontario as an international Masters graduate in Ontario, students must:


Intend to live and work in Ontario.
Have graduated from an existing Masters program at an eligible publicly funded university in Ontario.
Have completed a minimum of one academic year degree program, while studying on a full-time basis.
Apply within two years of the date on which their Masters degree was granted, or in the alternative, during the last semester of completing their degree.
Currently be residing in Ontario.
Have legal status in Canada (i.e. study permit, work permit, temporary resident visa). Refugee claimants and asylum seekers are not eligible for the program.
Demonstrate high official language proficiency (For English language proficiency – IELTS – General test with a minimum score of 7 or higher) (For French language proficiency – TEF – with a minimum score of 5 or higher).
Demonstrate a minimum level of savings/income to support themselves and their dependants.
Demonstrate at least one year of residence in Ontario in the past two years.
Not have further studies as their main activity in the province (e.g., pursuing a PhD or another degree/diploma). Graduates are allowed to pursue further studies, if those are necessary to meet registration requirements in a regulation occupation in Ontario.

I wasn't aware of the Ontario PNP Pretty easy to get PR from there I can see.

But here's the catch that you have mentioned, "eligible publicly funded university in Ontario". This thread was opened for an applicant to a college and I guess the applicant will not qualify for the PNP. Correct me if I am wrong.

You also need an employer sponsored application where you have to get "pre-approved" job offer by the Ontario PNP (and this is most tricky part!!). They won't approve just any other job offer. Ontario is a place where some of the best world class talent enter Canada first. Very hard job competition (only NOC 0, 1 and 2). Chances of finding NOC C, D are very good.

Getting an NOC 0/A/B job offer is the tricky part. Getting it approved is not the tricky part provided your employer is legit. And let's not use the term "sponsored" since it implies money. Your employer is not supposed to finance your PNP/PR in any way.

Only 1000 applicant will qualify and seems like pilot project.
