Hi I am new to the forum. I am about to apply for CEC. But I am not sure which NOC job category I should apply.

Here is my background. 4 years university finance major, no CGA,CMA,CFA,etc. Currently working at CIBC as Accounting Officer(my job title). Daily work is related to derivative accounting, my job duties included the following
-Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
-Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements

It seems like I should apply under 1231 Bookkeepers ? and I should not apply under 1112 Financial and Investment Analysts right? Or there is other category I should apply ?

Hi Prilo, your best option is to ask someone in HR at the bank what NOC is used to classify your job.

Are you on a post-graduate work permit?

You could try to apply with 1231 (Skill level B), the "officer" title implies higher level than clerk, but ... I suspect your job duties are closer to

1431 Accounting and Related Clerks
1434 Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Clerks

Which are Skill Level C and therefore not eligible for CEC.

If you apply under 1231 and it is not accepted, you will lose the application fee. It's up to you whether it is worth it. But I would try to confirm with the bank what NOC they think you are, because CIC will contact them...

I am under Post-Graduate Work permit.

So what gonna happene if the HR confirmed that it is under these NOC.
1431 Accounting and Related Clerks
1434 Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Clerks

That means i cant apply for CEC and i have to change a job ?

I need help and suggestions.

in that case , can i ask my Manager to sign my reference letter instead ?

those jobs are considered as skill level C (not 0, A, B), so if the immigration decided that you worked in those occupations, he or she will refuse your application and you will not be able to become a permenant resident.

Can you guys tell me why you suspect my job will fall into
1431 Accounting and Related Clerks
1434 Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Clerks

by just look at the job title ? My current job description includes exactly the duties stated in 1231 Bookkeepers class.
(copied from bookkeepers duties)
-Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
-Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements

non of those 1431 1434 included these two duties.
Please share your ideas with me. Also if anyone applied for Bookkeeper class can you also share with me ur opinion

if your job duties matches with that of Bookkeeper's, then don't worry, the immigration officer will decide that you worked as a bookkeeper. The title of your occupation is not very important (since it can be inconsistant from company to company), what is more important is the type of duties that you have been assigned to do..

The HR just replied my pos is 1212. Supervisors, Finance and Insurance Clerks. But i dont have a supervisors title either i am currently supervising.

So if i apply for 1212, Is that highly likely they will downgrade it to 1434 Banking Clerks?

Hi Prilo - your inbox is full, so I can't reply to your PM.

I wouldn't worry about the supervisor title - "officer" is fine - but I'm starting to see your point, it might look odd if you have no supervising or controlling responsibilities - I don't think it has to be supervising "people" per se, but a process or the work of a unit?

I don't know - perhaps discuss this with your immediate supervisor, perhaps they will have some ideas on why HR classified your position this way ...
