I am new to this forum..U guys ROCK!!

1. I am from India, and I wanted to know about the job prospects for Japanese translators in canada. I am JLPT level 2 certified. Can you please also mention any specific state where the job opportunities are high.
2. How far does knowing French help in getting jobs in Canada?

Where are you planning to go? French is almost required in most of Quebec, and very important in New Brunswick and eastern Ontario. It's definitely an asset everywhere, but much less so the further west you go.

French will be useful in Calgary, but not enormously so, in most industries.

I have no idea how the market there is for Japanese translators, I'm afraid.

I was researching about the same topic and was told by a guy who works for a Japanese company in Toronto that the market is quite small.

If you're not native Japanese, you'll need at least JPLT 1 or equivalent experience with high-level vocabulary to be considered. Also, translation companies in Canada will request you some form of Canadian certification, like the one offered by the Univ of Toronto, or belonging to a Translators' Association like the CTTIC.

It's not my intention to discourage you, but the market seems tough.

Yes, often you have to enroll in a program on interpretation. I believe it is a 6months program offered by various colleges and universities across Canada. After the completion of the program and qualifying exams, you will be awarded a certificate as an Interpreter. You may (have to) take additional course(s) to be a certified as a specialist such as Interpreter for Medical Professions.

I am also from india .. I have got COP in Japanese from EFLU and planning to get JLPT.. IS JPLT is recognized by WES
