IT Professional Work Permit Clarification

Hey all,

I'm fairly certain I understand the Work Permit process, however prior to going in for an interview tomorrow I'd like to be positive all my ducks are in a row.

1) From what I understand, many IT positions fall under NAFTA and therefore the LMO is waived. Due to it being waived all that is needed is a letter of offer from the company and for me to "walk around the flag pole" and show my letter of offer and then file for a work permit (If someone could clarify what walking around the flag pole will actually involve that'd be great).

2) Lets say the position does need the LMO, but since I'm married to a Canadian isn't there some type of stipulation that waives the LMO due to my spouse being a Canadian citizen? (This is where I really need clarification).

3) When I go into the job interview what is the easiest way to let them know I need the work permit and what needs to be done for me to get it. Ergo, the step by step plan for them so they don't have to do anymore work than necessary.

I've gotten all most information from the CIC website as well as Canadavisa.com, if there are any other websites that help to clarify or anyone who can walk me through the process in layman terms that would be awesome. Oh, probably an important bit, I'm an American.

Thank you all in advance!

1. For the work permit under NAFTA there is only one position Computer Systems Analyst

So you would not only require the job offer, but would have to prove that you have the following qualifications:

Baccalaureate or Licenciatura Degree; or Post-Secondary
Diploma or Post-Secondary Certificate, and three years’
experience.
Note: “Post-Secondary Diploma” means a credential issued,
on completion of two or more years of post-secondary
education, by an accredited academic institution in Canada
or the U.S.
Note: “Post-Secondary Certificate” means a certificate issued,
on completion of two or more years of post-secondary
education at an academic institution, by the federal
government of Mexico or a state government in Mexico

2. Nope, you still need a LMO if you are married to a Canadian citizen.
3. If you need a LMO, they are going to have to advertise the position for 2 weeks on the job bank. Only then can they apply for a LMO from HRSDC. Processing time anywhere from 6-16 weeks depending on the province.
