Hi all

I wanted to get some feedback from you regarding programming jobs in either Toronto or Montreal. My husband is a seasoned PHP developer with more than 6 years of experience and he has recently been promoted to project manager. As we are both currently in Europe, I am not sure how easy it would be for him to get a job, in Toronto/Montreal. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

It all depends on the quality of that experience. Is the experience from an English speaking country? Was it in a good company? What is his education? Was his education in a good recognized university?

Let's set for example a UK national, with mid tier university education working in the UK, with a mid tier company, landing on a PR. I see no problem with this type of person getting a decent job in a 1-2 months time.

There are many variables involved.

One thing for sure, jobs are available but there are a lot of people looking for them. So landed immigrants with Canadian experience/education are preferred.

Yeah, he has a bachelor's and a master's degree in computer science, and we had it assessed by WES, so he basically has the Canadian equivalent of a master's degree in CS. We are not from an English speaking country but he works for a multinational telecom operator (larger than Bell/Rogers) and before that, he worked for one of the world's largest game developing companies. As well, his boss is French and he has frequent interaction with managers in Paris, so he speaks English pretty much all day, every day.

Canadian education is requested as means of showing Canadian competency (ability to interact in a Canadian multi-cultural environment and proven successful abilities to succeed in the Canadian market), not about credentials. "Equivalencies" are not relevant.

This counts little. Companies like Accenture are massive but call centers and offshore teams are rated lowly, so just showing a "big company name" doesn't mean much.
