Hi,

I am currently in canada with a visitor visa and I want a study permit to study in Canada. So they told me that I need my biometric, and there are no locations inside Canada for that. i have a US visa therefore I will be going there to give my biometric. Once I do that, I will be waiting in the US till my study permit letter arrives. My question is that when I am returning to canada, they will issue me a new permit at the border but do I also need to apply for a study visa since my visa is of a visitor visa? Or will they change the status of my visa at the border where they issue my permit? Please let me know. Will be of great help!

I am not sure if they are allowed to issue new visas at the border since they only usually issue PERMITS, and not Temporary Residence Visas. You can contact CIC to be sure, but I think that yes, you have to apply for a new TRV as a student. I would think it should run simultaneously with your SP application.

When I applied for my Study Permit, I also had a valid Visitor's Visa, but when I received my passport after approval, they cancelled the Visitor's Visa (they made it void, since I can't have 2 valid TRV's at the same time) to issue me a Student Visa. Most likely, this will also apply to you :)
