I'm a Fall 2021 candidate at Humber, Toronto (deferred my admission from Fall 2020 originally). Good news, that I got my Visa finally.

However, the expiry date on Visa is December 2021. My course ends in August 2022. I want to sort out if there is any ambiguity here, so Please Advise :)

P.S. I know I can still enter Canada before Dec 2021, but I don't want to run into problems with study permit at the airport later. Also, ideally would want to be able to leave Canada and return if the need be, in 2022. I'm from India.

TIA, keep safe!

There's a difference between your study permit and TRV (Visa). Which one are you referring to? If your TRV expires after you enter Canada, all you to do is to apply for a new TRV when you need to leave.

If you are referring to your SP expiring, I think you will need to apply for an extension as soon as you enter Canada.

Hi @wonderbly ,

Thanks for the response!

Ya I'm referring to the TRV here, that's stamped on my passport. I think I'll get the study permit at Canada airport, when I reach there.

Do you think this earlier expiry date on the visa could affect the study permit validity that they'll give at the airport? Also, is there a way I can extend the visa expiry date before I even fly? just to make it easier. thanks.

The TRV has nothing to do with your SP. TRV allows you enter Canada; SP allows you to take up study. Your SP will be in line with your study duration as shown on your admission letter.

Perfect. So it's only about the TRV validity now! The usual way would be to extend it closer to it's expiry.

If you think I can have it extended before even leaving, please let me know. If not, thanks again for the info, really helpful :)

Hello! So turns out IRCC hasn't registered my deferral and gave me the study permit (till Dec 2021) based on my initial course (that was supposed to end in Sep 2021). Although I had deferred it to end in Sep 2022 now, and my consultant confirms that they uploaded the new Letter of acceptance well-in-time. Please advise what should I do next? I don't want to run into study permit troubles at the border.

Did your consultant provided you with proof after uploading new LOA?
