Issuance of PCC from the Indian Consulate(Chicago)

HI,

I have to get my PCC from the Indian Consulate and since they are not accepting application in person so I have to apply for it through post.

I wanted to know that do we need to mail our original passport to the Consulate along with our application or will the photocopy of it be sufficient?
