Hello There, MY name is Boshko, and i am 24 years old male, single. I am internet in 3D animation for VFX. Next year i will go for a bachelor degree for 3 years, which i was told it is important to have, to get visa,, after that, i am planning to work for 2-3 years in TV commercial, animation, just to get some experience.

My goal is to move to Canada, and stay there, because is lovely city and great opportunities for Animation, especially in Vancouver, because is called North Hollywood, and have many VFX studios.
But, i have heard many things about Vancouver, mostly positive, but one negative thing about Vancouver i was told is that it is really expensive. Most studios are in Yaletown, and i would like to be close to the studio that i am going to work, and some good food and markets around.

I have some questions for Vancouver.

Is it safe? Does it have some "dangerous zones" that is not good to go?
Do i need a car for it? i don't drive, i want to walk, and probably use public transport.
How are the people there?
How about climate? I don't care if it's rain or snow, but, i preferably a lot of snow. i can handle cold, but not to warm summers. It will be awesome if degree in summer not go over 35.

1. Housing is expensive in the city to buy and to rent in the downtown area.
2. Yes, there are areas where you don't want to spend anytime, such as Hastings and Main area.
3. No, you don't need a car, you can walk or take transit. There also car co-ops if you need a car for a couple or hours or a day.
4. People are the same as anywhere.
5. Very little snow, mostly rain. over a metre of rain so far this year. Vancouver highest temperature ever, was 33.8 degrees in 2009 2nd highest was in 33.3 in 1960. Very seldom ever makes it to 30.

Being born in Eastern Canada I may be biased but:
- if you love plenty of rain
- if you have a great salary
- if your comfortable with most murders annually of all Canadian major cities.
Then Vancouver is for you!
There are many other cities throughout Canada which offer a better quality of life than Vancouver.
And I must say Maritimers are much more open and friendly than in Vancouver.
I agree, it is nestled in a lovely location. But Vancouver isn't the only city with a great location....
Myself, I reside in Victoria. Not as expensive or as much rain and very little crime.
But the Island (Vancouver Island) is small and is expensive to get off and on for travelling.
Cheers ;)
