Travel insurance is definitely needed as you will have to pay up front for any services you require. You have to decide if you wish to take the risk of requiring emergency services or a doctor's visit during your stay and not having coverage. Medical services are expensive in Canada. Peace of mind with insurance is not. You can buy your insurance at home before you leave. If you wait until you get to Canada, there is likely to be a 48 hour period during which you would not be covered even after you buy the insurance. You can search online for more information and price. Choice is yours. Good luck.

Thx a lot piipn.

Tell me one thing also - i heared from someone that we don't need the travel insurance if we are going for less than 6 months but after 6 months( for visa extension) it is necessary.

Please clear my doubt.

Sorry, I don't know the requirements for visa purposes, suggest checking the CIC site or OPs Manual. I just can't imagine going to another country without taking health insurance. If you are not buying it because you cannot afford it, then what would happen when you GET sick? One doctor's visit, that is just a visit, is probably $85. That doesn't include the cost of any bloodwork/prescriptions/x-rays/you name it.....

I would HIGHLY recommend Visitor's Insurance, and not just because I sell it. As previously mentioned, healthcare is expensive in Canada and the Insurance is much easier to afford. Visitors here for non-Super Visa visits can select coverage as low as $10,000 (vs. $100,000 minimum for Super Visa), but I would recommend at least $50,000.
