Hey everyone,
I've been following the discussions about the incredibly long processing times, especially for refugee applications, and the complete lack of movement some of us are experiencing, like at Ankara. The "not enough data" message in the processing time checkers is concerning, and I think I might have found a potential explanation for all this, and it’s not good.
I came across this recent tweet from Steven Meurrens, a well-known immigration lawyer who often sheds light on IRCC internal processes. He shared information about a critical IT issue within IRCC's systems that might be contributing to all our delays.
According to Meurrens, in December 2023, IRCC's GCMS team identified a problem where eDocs were being incorrectly associated with the wrong applications due to an upgrade that occurred on Dec 5th. As a result, visa offices were ordered to HALT processing of affected applications. And here's the kicker: as of March 2024, this problem has STILL not been resolved.
This means that a significant number of applications could be just sitting in limbo, unprocessed, because of a system-wide issue. This could explain why some offices, like Ankara, might appear to have stopped processing refugee applications entirely, leading to that 'not enough data' status.
Here's the relevant part from the shared internal communication:
What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone else seen or heard of anything similar? It definitely feels like we deserve more transparency and explanation of why there are such huge delays. It could explain why, especially with regard to Ankara's office, our applications might be paused and not under active review, because the whole system is in a mess.
I think we need to collectively raise our voices about this and hold IRCC accountable to fix these issues and communicate with us about how this might affect our processing times. What else can we do to get our cases moving? Let's discuss.

It's incredibly frustrating to know that our applications might not be delayed because of the complexity of our cases, but because of a faulty IT system that IRCC hasn’t been able to fix for months. This is not an acceptable way to run a processing system, and could explain why we’re all waiting for months on end without any updates.[Quote from tweet, relevant excerpt] "On Dec. 7th, the GCMS team reported a serious problem in which eDocs were associated in error to the incorrect applications during an upgrade that took place on Dec. 5th. They have asked that processing be halted on the affected files until further notice. On Dec. 7th, the GCDOCS team removed all access to the affected documents. To date the problem remains without resolution. With the exception of a small list of applications sent out by GNOM on Dec. 19th, offices are to continue to pause processing on the affected files."
