I heard something over the past weekend. (Maybe a rumor)

Someone I know currently waiting for their wife process informed me that coming this May 2014, (meant May 2013) new changes would come in affect.
Visa would be given in around 6 months' time, but the spouse would have to wait 2 years prior to obtaining their PR card. What's the truth behind this story and how many of you have heard this around?

FYI: I don't really believe in rumors but since the new legislation was processed to avoid immigration fraud this rumor could very well be true.

Maybe they got confused with the conditional PR status? The applicant gets their PR card, but for two years following landing, if the relationship ends for any reason, s/he could have the PR revoked.

I don't stay on top of rumors and press from CIC - just my thoughts.

Hmmmm. I only heard they are planning to finish all the backlogs before May 2013.
Hopefully someone can give us a link regarding this, to confirm.
We're you actually saying May 2014 or was it supposed to be May 2013?

If this is to be true, I wouldn't mind waiting for my husband's PR card as long as we can be together with less wait.

It does seems to be a mix of two things, the conditional PR and that CIC is "trying" to process files within 6 months.

The new rules for PR were placed with the intention of lowering the rate of frauds, which they thought would (by lessening the amount of applications and possibly not digging so deep into) make the time each application takes lower.

I would LOVE it to be true!!! 4 months into the "process" I could handle waiting only 2 more.....too bad I face another 11. :'(

Yeah, you might be right but what about the people that have wait times of 26 months. Cause that sucks!!
26 month for spousal arrival plus an additional 2 years before they would recieve their PR..

Well, they'll be able to do the things they normally would on PR, and I think the time counts towards citizenship, so as long as the relationship is genuine it shouldn't really make a difference.

My cousin has told me this rumour about 3 months ago...apparently she got it from a friend of her dad who read it in a newspaper... ::) I'm not too sure about it, the guy who told her could not recall what newspaper and I went crazy searching up this rumour on the internet..but I could not for the life of me find out its origins, so ya, no idea if it's true or not.

I'd be a bit angry if it was true...because I've been waiting for 17 months now and my VO's processing time changed from 26 to 28 months. So if somebody got married after me and their husband came 22 months before mine...I'd be fuming!

Mine used to be 26 and has now changed to 28 months (plus 33 days for sponsor approval) so total 29 months :'( . I don't know if this reducing backlog story is even true :(

It's reducing backlog from offices that closed, such as Buffalo. It has nothing to do with the normal processing times at offices that are still open :(

BTW, when I say normal - I mean what they have posted on their website. I don't think 28 months is "normal" by any stretch...

there is the link about the conditional PR. There are threads here on the forum about the backlog as well.

starting in may there is a ton of new changes for the federal skilled worker program. which they are hopeing will take 1 year or less to process those applications.

they could be confusing the FSW with the family class sponsorship possibly.
