Hi,

Just would like to know regarding valid proofs for common law sponsorship, On the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union Form[IMM 5409], their is a section for proof to show we have things in common, what are the proof that i can show. We do not have the same bank account, the apartment is on my boyfriends name, in short, we have our different name on all things we do. Its either my name or his name and not the too name togerther. Please what do you think i can do on this, is there any other valid proofs we can show ?

Thanks!

Hello.

I had exactly the same problem. My partner came to the UK on a working holiday visa, and in the first year when we tried to rent together we couldn't because he needed a guarnator in the UK, so I had to rent in my name.
Bank account we had the same problem, because noone will open a bank account in his name if he doesn't have proof of address.
Equally when we rented we rented with all inclusive (as I was still a student) so we had no bills coming in either names.
It was all a bit of a nightmare.

I ended up adding my partner to my bank account before he left for Canada (it was easier for me since I work at the bank), but we haven't had that account in joint names for very long.

I explained the reasons in my application on separate piece of paper as to why it was impossible produce proofs of purchases and rental of property.
We did send off our fairly new bank account details together as well though...

I am sure a lot of other people may experience similar problem - I hope that they would take such into consideration and allow you/us to offer other non-official proofs.

Best of luck!

Hi Mila,
Thanks for the reply. Its a very helpful insight.

We're both staying in Dubai,UAE and since its a muslim country it is a law that only married couples should cohabit together. I am still living with my partner though and its just so hard to present other proofs that we cohabit since the local law itself doesn't allow us the right to do so. The fully furnished flat is under our company's account with an inclusion of utility bills, so not really much proof on that as well.

Getting frustrated

Hello cherubz,

I think Canadian government would see this as a good reason as to why you couldn't provide proof. Based on what we sent, our application got approved. If you have pictures, letters, cards or anything of the sort, you should send that. Me and my partner sent a lot of photographs, plane tickets, sort of letters from both of our parents stating that they know us and that we are in a genuine relationship, so that all really helps.

Anything that you have together, send it. They will take all that into consideration.

Best of luck to you.

Do not be afraid to send pics of display of affection with your partner.. kissing..cuddling. A good friend once sent a pic of she and her girlfriend in bed, talking after love making. LOL I mean, it was mighty obvious those two were a couple.
