Is there a grace period once implied status expires?

Hi,

Because I want to maximize the length of time I can remain under implied status after my current visitor visa expires, I am going to apply for an extension as close as possible to the expiry date. But in the event my extension is denied, I'm concerned as to exactly how soon thereafter I must leave Canada. Immediately? A couple of months? Is there something like a "grace period"?

All advice are much appreciated!

Thank you!

There's no grace period if the extension is refused. You are out of status in Canada immediately once you are notified of the refusal.

If you wish to return to Canada without issues in the future, it's strongly recommended that you leave Canada as soon as you can after the refusal (i.e. within 2-3 weeks). If you remain for a couple of months, this could impact your ability to easily return (or return at all) in the future.

Alternatively you can also apply to restore your status within 90 days of a refusal. However if a visitor visa extension is refused, it's extremely likely the restoration application will be refused as well and you are better off leaving (again, if you have any plans to return to Canada in the future).
