Hello
I write this because I went to talk to an immigration adviser from my university about an unrelated issue. Basically I graduated two months ago and applied for my post-graduation work permit about a month ago.
While talking to the adviser, I slipped in that I at some point worked as a tutor teaching test preparation (SAT, AP, etc.), while I was on my study permit. She asked me whether I got a medical exam for that, and since I did not, she said that I engaged in unauthorized work and as such is quite likely that they will reject my postgraduation work permit.
That kind of scared me, so I looked at the types of work that require a medical exam from the official immigration Canada page and the only related category is:
I, however, do not work at a secondary school, I work at a private institute that teaches test preparation, all of my classes are 1 to 1 or at most 1 to 2 tutoring, not actual group classes, and my students are not small children, they are in their last year of their high school preparing for their university admission exams.
I did mentioned this to her, but she says that any kind of job requiring teaching to high school aged kids requires a medical exam and failure to do so constitutes unauthorized work.
Is she right on this, or I don't have anything to worry about?
Thank you!
