Hi members,

I am sponsoring my spouse who is an Indian citizen but is currently in US. I know that FBI clearance is required for her. Somebody told me that in addition to this, i need the state police clearance also. Is this true?

No, only if they request it (which I've only seen once or twice).

I included mine simply because I didn't want to have to wait in case it was asked for.

It is usually not required, but because your wife is not a US citizen, IF she has had any run ins with the police, they may request a state certificate to see the disposition of the charge/charges, if any were brought. Some items simply will NOT appear on an FBI certificate.

It's really up to you to make the final decision, but if they do come back and ask for it, remember that it will cost the amount of time to get her printed and have it processed and returned to you and then forwarded to CIC.

If you choose to include it up front, the only cost is that of printing and getting the results, no time lost since you're presumably still putting together all the documentation.

Best of luck!
