I am currently working on closed WP that's expiring in 6 weeks.
I am applying BOWP online and expect to have it approved before my close WP expires.

1) Now assuming if I move to USA in a week or two and want to return to Canada upon expiry of my closed
work permit, do I need visa stamping to return back to Canada or having open work permit approval is sufficient?

2) If stamping is needed can I get the stamping done in USA or do I need to go back to my home country(India).

No TRV (stamped on your passport) is needed to return back from the US. Valid work permit is sufficient.

Thanks, but does the period of my stay matter , I may be there for 3 to 5 months. Do I need to have a job in hand when I return.

Also I was reading below topic where in one of the user mentions that if a person is from India then TRV would be needed.

Unfortunately he/she is wrong. Look at this page: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=208&t=17

Relevant section copied here:
You can ask to come back to Canada on your original temporary resident visa, even if it is expired, if:
you will only visit the U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon, and
you will return to Canada before the end of your approved stay in Canada.

Thank you very much , I gave you plus one for the info. I wasn't able to find it myself.

Also in my case 'the end of your approved stay in Canada.' means my open work permit expiry correct?

That is correct. You need to come back before your WP expires.

Note that one of the eligibility criteria of the BOWP is that you are in Canada...

Guys, I think you should know. I got a BOWP and traveled to the EU for work, and returned via the US. Thankfully, my return date to Canada was 4 days before the expiry of my current TRV, so I had no problem in re-entering. Every single flight / connection I took, they only looked at my TRV and didn't even bother looking at the work permit. If you are an Indian, you better have a valid TRV on your entry back to Canada.

What matters is the airport from where you board to visit Canada. If you are entering from US, you can enter on a WP and an expired TRV. I am from India and I have done it plenty of times. On the other hand, you cannot do the same from any other location (other than U.S. or St. Pierre and Miquelon)

Hi is this thread still active ? I have a valid WP until Dec 1 2021. I plan to apply for extension now but I have a trip planned to india from Nov 1- 25 . Do you guys know if I would be allowed to travel on my existing Visa and work permit which would be valid for only 1 week when I fly back to Canada
Please please help me with your kind reply and thoughts
