Is SIN Card sufficient to open bank account and get credit card ?

My fiancé had his SIN and took his COPR when he opened his account and he had no issues. We were issued with credit cards, but they checked our UK credit history before we could get them

SIN is essential for opening a bank account. Your passport and the copy of COPR are required for the proof of identity.
