Is registered domicile an important piece of clarification?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are submitting her Inland spousal application in a few days. My wife is from Japan and we have to submit a document called koseki tohon and kaiseigen koseki tohon

My wife's passport states that her registered domicile as Kanagawa. My wife was born in Kanagawa.

However, her koseki tohon states that her registered domicile as Tokyo.

After my wifes mother and father had gotten a divorce, my wife along with her mother had to create a new koseki tohon to remove themselves from her father's koseki tohon.

During that time, my wife and her mother was residing in Tokyo, so her koseki tohon states that her registered domicile as Tokyo and not Kanagawa.


I know we may be looking into this a bit too much, but do you guys think that the officer will ask questions on why her passport registered domicile as Kanagawa and her koseki tohon registered domicile as Tokyo?

Thanks again k.h.p, I think I'll include the letter as well. Do you think that this information would be something that the officer would decline or send back out application for? We're scared that if the letter is not accepted they may want my wife to correct her passport to match Tokyo

I can't honestly say I know, but I suspect this would not be a major issue requiring changed documents or return of application. I can't say 100% of course, but it's common for addresses to change and ID to not 100% match.

I can't speak to Japan but not uncommon in many countries for actual residence and registered address to be different, as well as some difference between various docs. Short letter of explanation should be sufficient. And doubtful they would send back for this reason - but no guarantee.
