Is PR Card necessary to re-enter in Canada ?

Hi everyone,

My husband and I will be landing in Canada around April along with our COPR (EE, Outland)
Although, I'll be residing in Toronto, my husband will have to return to India with in 3-4 days.
I have the following questions:
1. Does he need a PR card to leave Canada ?
2. He'll pack up things in India and will finally return to Canada after 3-4 months i.e. sometime around August, does he need a PR Card at that time ?
3. If the answer to question no.2 above is yes then is there a solution where he can do a soft landing and I can collect his PR card on his behalf ?

Please help as we are really confused.

Thanks a lot.. one last question please.. Is the PR Card a physical or soft document ? I'm asking because if it's a soft version, I can email it to my husband otherwise I'll have to search ways to send the card to him in India.
