Guys do students need a police clearance to go to canada? I was under the assumption that it only applies for PR applicants. But i read it in a few websites that CIC may/may not request for police clearance. Is there anybody in here who had to do a police clearance to study in canada? I mean after all this they ask me for a Pc now it will take me a good 1-2 months to get it from Dubai so just want to be prepared and try to arrange it before they ask me to do so?

What is the main difference between Police clearance and a background check?

yup Police Certificate is mandatory if your course is more then 6 months....

This may be for Students applying from Pakistan because i have never heard of anyone from India needing to submit a Police clearance certificate.

Guys from India please clarify or correct me if i am wrong?

Hi ryan ,

you will definitely require a police certificate for traveling abroad , you can contact the nearest Indian embassy regarding this

But Obeid then why doesnt it say in the SPP checklist that police clearance is required? This sucks man..cos my stupid agent never told met this and if i have to apply for PC now it will take me time since it needs to go through Dubai CID..

there's no need to worry about that , as i said we've been living abroad for quite some time that should be sufficient .It depends on the VO if he's more curious like " let me see if he's been following the rules before he left dubai " ,then he would ask for it in between . In Saudi if I don't pay my phone bill and leave the country then at the airport my info would pop up stating " Obeid has not cleared his bills before leaving" I would have to pay the bill plus a fine.

So according to you the PC thing is quite standard in INDIA? Im just curios on why it does not say so in the SPP checklist..i mean if i new about this earlier i would have applied for it long time back and would have my clearance in hand by now.. It takes 2-3 months to get the clearance in Dubai you know how things roll in GCC..

So according you your statement every student applying from India has to produce the PC?

hi ryan

I'm not sure how SPP rolls since there's very less documentation required, if you check" What are the requirements I must meet?" on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5269E2.asp

it clearly states "be a law abiding and have no record of criminal activity (you may be asked to provide a Police Clearance Certificate);"

Now what this means is that there are cases where they may ask for one , it depends on the file I guess ,If the VO is convinced that by the provided documents that he doesn't need to see a PCC, then he won't ask for it .

Have you cancelled your IQAMA for dubai ?

Yes bro i cancelled my Iqama and now in India..I am here in Delhi just to process my visa since i did nto want to depend on the agents..

I am going to file my application tommorow..And then return back to DUbai on Visit..Will stay there till i get news on the visa status and hopefully if positive will fly out from Dubai.

I mean if i knew this earlier i would have applied for PC with CID but now if the VO decides to ask for it i am screwed cos it will take me minimum 3 months to get it....Besides i even enquired with the Canadian consulate in Abudhabi before leaving DUbai if they needed the PC and they told me NO...and even my agent told me NO.This is why i never applied for it.

It looks like it is only us 2 spending sleepless nights :)))

I agree with you on that matter , you're in safe hands, I mean I went to the indian embassy in riyadh last year , they too said the same thing, they were like GCC indians don't need any Police clearance for Canada ,if their IQAMA is valid.Your case is positive since you applied shortly without any long gaps after canceling your Iqama, it wouldn't raise any suspicion so no worries.

Sleepless nights are common under this kind of a situation :o

the "what do you say" topic has grabbed quite a lot of views

I applied 3 days after my iqama was cancelled..basically took the first flight out..so yeah i dont think there should be any suspicion.

The what do you say topic..that guy Saad really knows his stuff man..thats why want him to participate in the forum as well..He really gives answers straight , yes a lil blunt but very clear. I really feel the guy is some immigration consultant the way he gives his answers..

Go to bed now bro..talk tommorow..really i never knew i wud be so stressed .but hey this is life right :)))

Obeid i contacted the Canadian Consulate in Abudhabi they DO NOT need the police clearance..It is confirmed..I have an email from them as well and forwarded the email to your personal email address..check it out..

ok , that's good , im checking my mail ;D
