Hi,

I am having work permit and doing the job here in Canada. My wife got Visitor Visa (applied from my company) and she came here 3 months back.

As per law she can stay only 6 months on visitor visa after that she needs to re-enter hence I am thinking to apply an open work permit for her.

I want to know few things before applying the open work permit.

1. Will open work permit give her the immigrant status in Canada?
2. How long the open work permit will take if I applied online.
3. If that is in progress(if takes 3-4 months) can she stay in Canada till approval, as she is on visitor visa and having 3 months stay remaining only.
4. If I got the approval then do we need to go to port entry or somewhere for stamping on passport?

Please help so I can apply the open work permit for her.

Thanks in Advance !

You need a skilled job and 3 payslips for her to qualify for an OWP.

1. No. She would have status as a temporary resident, like you.

2. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html

3. Yes, she can stay. She will have Implied Status if her visitor status expires before the work permit app is processed.

4. No. Her passport isn't stamped for a work permit app.
