I looked at the immigration website and I see that they have a notice in the dog section about Ontario not allowing pitbull type dogs, I thought I read something about Quebec being the same. Is it this way anywhere else? My dog is unfortunately half staffordshire bull terrier, I saved him from the shelter as a puppy and I would hate to have to give him away if I did decide to immigrate. Thanks for any help.
Is Ontario/Quebec the only places that do not allow pit bull breeds?

I know a girl in Quebec who has a pitbull and is really proud of him and belongs to some pitbull owner organization even. As far as I know, it's only ON that doesn't allow them. Canada food inspection has a page on importing dogs at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import/dogse.shtml and they don't mention pitbulls being banned anywhere else other than ON.

For anyone else who is still in the thread I have another question, how important is knowing french? I am fairly confident I could become somewhat proficient in it within a couple months, I am not sure if it would help me to better secure a job in Canada or not however.

Unless you are living in Quebec or some French speaking town in some other province, French is not very important at all. It might help you get a job if you want to work at a call center or a hotel, other tourism industry or possibly if you are working for the government since they need to provide those services. That's about it. I lived in Toronto for a while and after that I moved to AB and I have never needed French. There was guy from Quebec who came to my workplace and could only speak French and it turned out there was only one person in the workplace who could communicate with him. He gave up and moved back after a while.
