Is OINP worth it?

Hi,

I have seen a few posts that suggest that above a certain EE score, it might not be worth it to apply to OINP because it will result in longer waiting times and an additional $1,500 in fees.

I am currently sitting at 468 points on my CIC profile and have received a PT for the French Speaking Stream, but I'm wondering whether it is worth applying.

If I already have 468 points, will an extra 600 points from OINP grant me a significant advantage? If so, what kind of advantage are we taking about? Does it only reduce waiting times or could I potentially never receive an ITA with only 468 points?

Thank you!

I would apply no matter what coz noone know when it will drop.
You can withdraw you OINP application when you get EE invite
they will send your money back unless you will have been given an AOR by that time
OINP will be working on you application 6-10 months.

I see. So what you are saying is that, if I apply for OINP, I may receive an ITA on my EE before I get an AOR for the OINP? And that If I receive the ITA before the AOR from OINP, I should cancel my OINP application and accept the ITA instead?

Because I had assumed that if you applied for OINP, you would no longer receive an ITA until the OINP application was processed.

Follow up question:

Let us assume I receive an ITA before I receive an AOR for OINP. Then is it in my interest to proceed with my application directly and cancel my OINP application? I guess the question becomes: do the EE points matter once you have received an ITA or are these points only used to determine who receives an ITA and how fast one receives same?

Thanks,

As a follow up, it seems the Ontario Immigration website contradicts what you are saying:

"If you receive and accept an Invitation to Apply (ITA) from IRCC or a nomination from another province or territory after you have already applied to OINP, your application fee to OINP will not be refunded. Application fees are non-refundable even if an application is withdrawn or denied, as they cover OINP’s cost of processing applications." - Ontarioimmigration.ca

In the above, whether or not you have receive an AOR from OINP does seem to matter. You will not get a refund regardless. Is that wrong?

Yes, it is. People who have withdrawned their applications received money back, provided that they were not given an AOR.
