Good afternoon.

After discussion with my boss, HR agrees to give me the following employment letter. I am applying for CEC under NOC1112(financial and investment analyst). My concern the job description in the letter is too simple and it doesn't match the official NOC1112 job description very well.

What do you think? Seniors, please comment. Thank you.

To whom it may concern:

I am writing this reference at the request of XXXXX who is applying for Permanent Resident status of Canada.

XXXXX has been employed by XX since June 1, 2013. XXXXX is employed in the role of Portfolio Analyst, which is a permanent full time position in our Finance Division.

XXXXX works as part of a team which is responsible for the calculation and reporting of mutual fund performance and analysis of that performance. Reporting and analysis produced by this department is used by various recipients to understand the performance of our mutual funds as well as to support operational and investment decisions.

XXXXX’s duties include calculating and verifying daily fund and benchmark performance, producing a large series of monthly and quarterly reports, responding to ad-hoc requests related to fund performance, and participating in the development and implementation of process improvements.

As a Portfolio Analyst, he is working 37.5 hours per week and currently earning $48,500 per year.

If there are any questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

It has all the required details, and (in my opinion) aligns with the duties in NOC 1112. It's clear what you do. Yes, there COULD be more detail, but it would probably suffice. (Esp. if the company is well-known).

When do you apply? My company is big and the HR has to follow the company rule :( which makes the letter tooooo simple.
It's not simple at all. My job reference letter is no longer than yours. Even though I know nothing about finance, but those paragraphs are definitely long enough to describe your job duties. Being longer won't help you and it might even distract the visa officer. So as long as the duties touch base with their requirements for your NOC you'll be fineeee...

^I agree, this is better than mine.
I had four simple lines on mine. The Officer's remark was "the reference is generic, needs further review."
The reviewer eventually passed me on Eligibility, but it would have been better if the reference was more detailed.

WOW, it seems very dangerous. Did they call your boss?

I meant 4 bullet points on the duties.

The reference was provided by the HR. I don't think they called. I'm from a Big 4 plus I included my employment contract, so those things could have helped.
