Hello, I have been reading different topics on Canada Immigration and its really informative. I need some information on student visa.

My wife is planning to do 3D Animation specialization 1 year course from Canadian college. when she gets student visa, will I be able to get dependent visa as well? and if yes, then will I be able to find work based on dependent visa and can transfer it to work permit?

about me, I am IT Sales professional and working since last 8 yrs in Dubai for a multinational company.

Please guide me those who has idea about this situation.
Many thanks in advance.

I was just reading CIC site and found below. what do you think?

Studying in Canada: Work permits for students - Work available to your spouse or common-law partner

Eligibility

Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for a work permit if:

you are a full-time student at:
a public post-secondary institution, such as a college or university or collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CEGEP) in Quebec
a private post-secondary institution that operates under the same rules and regulations as a public institution, and receives at least 50 percent of its financing for its overall operations from government grants (currently, only private college-level educational institutions in Quebec qualify) or
a Canadian private institution authorized by provincial statute to confer degrees
you have a valid study permit

The info you have in red tells it all

However the open work permit shall only be valid for the duration of your wifes visa.If its 1 yr,then you shall get a work permit for 1 yr and this you apply as you arrive at the port of entry.

You are a professional with a good job where you are-why do you want to pursue such a dangerous route-Even here people are looking for jobs.

1 yr work permit wont do you that much for how sure a you of getting a job immediately-so after 1 yr you go back home again or what?

@Habil, You are right about taking a risk. But we want to migrate to Canada. Student visa is the easiest option we can see as my wife wants to pursue higher education also. IT is removed from FSW and Quebec is about learning French for at least a year. So we thought instead of learning a language, why cant we pursue higher education.

I am in Dubai past 8 yrs yet in UAE there is no PR and thus no security. at least I have chance to get PR in Canada. I am willing to take this risk.

@Scylla, We are looking for schools now mainly in Toronto area. I just checked two schools till now. Maxthemutt and Sheridan. what about u? if you know you can suggest us.

Guys, another question is, when I get job based on my open work permit, will Employer be able to transfer to proper work permit through which I can apply for PR?

Hi Jorelle,

I would love to apply under PNP program but I have to have work permit from sponsor in order to do that and sitting out of Canada it is very hard to get sponsor even for skilled professionals. that is the reason student visa with open work permit sound better option.

If you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to share.
