Hello all
I was wondering if it is possible for my fiance to visit Canada and then while here get married and then apply for sponsorship or if this is frowned upon? Is this at all possible? Our relationship is genuine and we would just like to get married with as little red tape as possible, we would love to get married in his home country (england) as his mother is 87 and would be unable to travel to Canada, but, after reading many posts here, I think it would complicate and slow down our ability to be together if we married in England and would make it more difficult for him to enter Canada.
thanking everyone in advance for their thoughts and experiences
Joanne

Yes it is possible, but you have to be careful on what information you tell the customs. As far as getting married in England, I don't know any info on that. If your wanting him to stay with you in Canada for the duration of the process there are more procedures to go through.

Do not listen to the above poster. The only hinderance you will face is if you're dishonest at Immigration/Customs. Liars get no breaks.

There is nothing illegal/immoral/wrong with getting married to a Canadian, wanting to move to Canada LEGALLY, or getting married in Canada.

My answer was based on other peoples experience. If the officer believes that he will not leave the country, which they have reason 2 believe that since he has a spouse living in Canada, they can refuse him entry. I however have always been honest when crossing the border and have never had a problem, other people however have not been that lucky.

Getting married in UK is not that hard, you apply for a COA before leaving Canada and fly to UK, I believe the visa is good for 6 months.
I checked out getting married in Ont vs UK....was easier to get married in UK. In UK you get proper marriage cert at wedding, in Ont you gotta wait for it, so maybe same in other provinces. Immigration wants proper wedding docs, not the ceremonial one you get at wedding.

My father was also elderly when I married, he was in Canada...I had no family at my wedding and been living here in UK since, again with no family...now my turn for going home is coming up and I can't wait!
