Is it possible to change from an Outland application to inland?

Hello. This is our case.

We submitted the sponsorship papers as an Outland application as we were planning to continue to be living overseas until the resident's visa was issued to my wife. We changed our minds and decided to move to Canada (my wife entered the country as a tourist).

Apparently CIC has not began to review our documentation yet according to the status updates published on their website.

My question is: is it possible to change the origin of the application? If so, is it worth it?

thanks for your help

Hi

No, an app cannot be changed from outland to inland. You would need to withdraw the outland app and re-submit inland.

And if you resubmit the application, the processing times will start over again from scratch.

there is absolutely no reason to switch from outland to inland. an outland applicant can be IN canada while it processes.

Even though your visa office hasn't started processing your outland application, it is pretty much guaranteed it will be processed MUCH faster as outland rather than inland. Currently, inland is taking 2+ years for approval. Most, if not all visa offices are approving outland applicants in 6-11 months. it would be a big, huge, ginormous mistake to withdraw an outland application and apply inland.

the outland processing times posted on the CIC website are not accurate. to get a better idea of what to expect with your visa office, find the thread specific to that office on this forum. most visa offices have threads, and there are usually spreadsheets that track progress. it will be easy to learn the "trend" for approval at your visa office.

I was visiting with my husband in Canada ( I'm from the US) throughout the whole year process as an Outland applicant ( mine had a few screw ups so the timeline is not normal). Plus the majority of the 2yrs prior. If your wife can enter Canada ( as it seems she can) she can stay with you as an Outland applicant. A lot of us did that. The only thing would have been if I had to have an interview, I would need to go to the States but again, those don't seem to happen often either. Especially if your case is solid. So personally, I wouldn't go inland. That way you have more 'wiggle room' to leave Canada, should you want to.
