I have been looking into the possibility of arranging long term (1 year) rent from outside of Canada for my family before we arrive, however, it seems that we have to be physically present in Canada (Toronto) in order to do it as it requires some paper works such as letter from employer, bank statements and so on. Thus, I am forced to look for temporary accommodation in Toronto from March 17 until we find the long term apartment suitable for my family. My family is big (4 people), however, we can squeeze into 1 br apartment as we do usually. Any offer, suggestion or advice?

Be careful, while renting from outside Canada, don't send any money by western union etc, there are lot of scammers out there to take advantage.

Try finding some rental agencies and also look on settlement.org for tips and rules and stuff for settling in Toronto/Ontario,

I don't think anyone will allow a family of 4 to live in 1 bedroom apartment.

Agreed. You'll need at least a 2 bedroom - possibly a 3 bedroom.

But landlords would usually ask for the rental unit's security deposit or first month rental in advance before you can secure the place. In BC, or depends on individual landlords, you can book a rental unit while you are outside Canada.

Most of the people ask for credit history to rent an apartment. What if we are immigrating? what are the docs we can represent to rent?
