Is it okay to shop at outlet malls/duty free before landing?

Hey all,

We're driving from Toronto to Buffalo to land, probably at Peace bridge or Rainbow bridge. We'll be in buffalo for less than 24 hours. Would it be a problem if we did some shopping at nearby malls or at the duty free and brought the stuff over during the landing, or will they make us pay duty and taxes on this stuff?

Its not a problem, but yes you will have to pay duty and taxes on the items since they are new and were not used by you prior to landing in Canada.
