Is it legal to stay for 90 days after work permit expired?

I need help! My situation is next, My employer has lied to me that he applied for new work permit, he didn't, I found out about it after 2 months of my work permit expired. I overstayed already for almost 3 months and planning back to my country soon.
I have 2 questions:
1) I'm planning to apply for PR in a future, can my overstay in Canada leads to rejection in PR of Canada?
2) I heard that during 90 days after my work permit expired I can apply for restoration if i find another employer, Can I apply for restoration and visitor visa at the same time?

What would you do in my situation?

Please, if anyone who knows something about this issue or was in the same situation, please give me some tips what I have to do now?

If it has been less than 90 days since your work permit expired, you can apply for restoration($200) AND to change your status to visitor(can't work). Both applications have to be made at the same time. In your request, explain clearly what happened that caused you to loose your legal status and also say that you are now trying to regularize your status. Once you do this, you can stay in Canada until CIC makes a decision.

The overstay can become a problem if the 90 days(since permit expired) have passed and you do not leave Canada. But as long as you apply as indicated above and comply with all other laws, you should be fine.

Hopefully you didn't continue working after your work permit expired. If you worked without a valid work permit and CIC finds out, you could end up with a six month ban from applying for a new work permit.
