Is it easier to get 6 months single entry visa compared to 5 yr. multiple ?

Dear members,

I am currently living in Germany and want to visit canada for a week.

My german visa is valid for 1 more year from now.

I was wondering if I can apply for multiple entry visa as I just plan to visit canada for a week.

Is it difficult to convince visa officer in this case that why I need 5 years visa as my german visa is only valid 1 more year ?

Should I write some explanation in my application letter that why I need 5 years visa ?

Please share your experiences.
