I had applied for a PGWP. For a short time I worked for a company that stated that they did not deduct taxes on my behalf. So I had to do all the tax deductions on my own.

Do you think this is a safe thing to do for a foreign worker? Would it cause any potential troubles?

I'm a bit of a rookie in this topic. I do not know much about how to file taxes. From what I know, you're only supposed to do it once a year some time around April right? Or are there other deadlines when it specifically comes to doing your own taxes if your employer does not do it for you?

What documents do you need to stay on the safe side and not get into any trouble?

If you deduct taxes yourself, this can often mean you are self-employed. If your work experience is classified as self-employment, then it cannot be counted towards CEC.

Oh yes I know this :) This was just something I was doing short term to make money. But I was just wondering how safe this is in terms of following the conditions of your permit. Whether it leads to foreign workers getting into trouble because they say that you worked illegally or did not submit all the proper documents in time.

There's no issue from that perspective. It's not illegal work as long as you declare this income fully when you do your year end taxes.
