Hi All,

I would like to know if IELTS scores are compulsory, even if you have the following:

1) Education Certificates indicating language of instruction
2) Reference letters from employers stating, involvement in coaching/training employees on Business English, Communication etc
3) Internationally Recognized certificate like TEFL from i-to-i - Teaching English as A Foreign Language
4) A well written letter stating proficiency in English.

Would IELTS, still be necessary? And if YES, is there an option to furnish the scores after the package is received at New Delhi.

Your comments and views would be highly appreciated.

Best wishes to all aspirants!!

yes, its necessary

If you read your application guide, you will find that IELTS is not mandatory but it is strongly recommended if English is not your first language. The reason is that IELTS is the only proof of English skills guaranteeing you points. If you choose to write a proficiency letter instead, you are at the mercy of the immigration officer who can give you whatever number of points they feel like and yes, even 0 points if they do not feel you have supported your case well.

It is not mandatory to have taken IELTS before applying to CIO but it is also recommended due to the fact that people may over-estimate their English skills, estimate too many points for English, find out after applying to CIO when taking IELTS that they can not get that many points, do not have time any more to prepare better and take IELTS again and lose their application because their total points drop below 67.

If you are sure that you can easily get as many points on IELTS as you need or more, you can apply to CIO now and take IELTS later to send when you send your full documents.

CIC used to have an option for the immigration officer to request you to take IELTS if they did not believe your proficiency letter but they have stated that as of April 10th, they are not doing that any more. If you go with a proficiency letter, they will now give you however many points they feel like and they will not give you the option of taking IELTS if they give you less points than you claimed.

Thank you, Leon for your post.

To the others,

Is there anyone, who has been successful without the IELTS score in any of the categories.

If you are so comfortable with English, there is no need to refrain in taking test.....

If you need only 8-10 points in English Language, you may take a chance without IELTS. But if you need more than 12 pts, I strongly recommend you should take IELTS.
