Hi, my fiance first visited in Canada on a visitor's visa May 2022, and left Canada for U.S for a week in Sept. She then returned back to Canada from the U.S. after 7 days. At the border she was questioned and we told the border officer the truth that we want to stay together for a year then apply for PR, the officer didn't question more and allowed her in without giving a stamp.

My question is for the 6 months calculation, will it be based on the latest arrival date of Canada(i.e the September date?). I've been hearing many info like U.S doesn't count as "leaving" canada; you have to leave canada for 14 days to "refresh" the 60 days.

Also if I may ask, when applying for a visitor record, will it be beneficial to mention our relationship and plan for becoming a PR? I feel super comfortable telling an officier in person but I'm afraid the tone of writing might reads different when applying with documents.

Thanks for your input and have a great day.

It all depends on the people at the border crossing. You got lucky once but that doesn't mean you will again.

6 month is based on September entry. You can say in the extension application that you are trying to stay together for a continuous year to apply as common law. You shouldn’t leave Canada and try to reenter if you are trying to live in Canada with visitor status.
