Hi all:

The immigration consultant I was talking to said that an important service of his is to construct a list of documents required, and that this list could only be done once the forms were complete. In other words, the document checklist provided with the application is apparently not ALL the documents required, there are others, depending on the applicant's situation.

What is your view? Did you just follow the Immigration document checklist, or did you provide other documents you thought might be helpful?

We just went with the checklist, all the documents we needed were on there. If you have a special case, you might need to attach other things (like custody papers for example), but for most people, the checklist is enough - there's two, one for the whole thing and one for the applicant's part only (in the region specific instructions).

LOL, I think the consultant is trying to make it look that he/she is privy to some sort of "secret" knowledge that you aren't. Sure we included documentation that wasn't part of the requested checklist based on our circumstances, but I don't think that's anything that you couldn't also think of on your own. For instance, I'm a graduate student but I have a full scholarship to cover tuition and living expenses, so I included a copy of the scholarship offer letter and an estimate of what I could expect to make once I graduate. Also, my father is quite unwell and was not able to travel to India for our wedding but he was very anxious to meet my husband so I included a letter from my mom and my father's doctor confirming his medical status. Things like that. I don't know if it helped but it sure didn't hurt. We initially got a PPR 3 weeks after New Delhi began processing our case. So it may be that in your situation there is nothing 'additional' that you need to add, but I think that providing additional supporting evidence can definitely make your case stronger. It really depends on your specific circumstances which only you would know.

But I have a question here. I am sponsoring my wife currently in Delhi whom I recently got married. Can someone get Medical check done and a Police check before filing the application? One of the authorized document tells my wife that she has to have a letter from the Canadian Council for what needs to be checked? Is this true?

Your spouse is supposed to have the medical and supply the receipt and submit the Police Certificates with the sponsorship and the application. No you don't get a check list for spousal applications, you follow the instructions in the guide and visa office specific forms.

Hi PMM:

May I ask who you are? You seem quite knowledgeable, and spend a lot of time helping others. Nice of you.

Immigration consultants can be good if you yourself feel overwhelmed. But it is quite easy to follow once you read through the guide and go through the checklist. Like mentioned above there is nothing going above and beyond what is being asked to make your "case" more complete. The onus is on you to prove your relationships genuinity and also build a personal story of it on paper.
