It could turn out to be either. All depends on each and everyone's individual situation(s). The bitter truth is, for some, Canada will become a dream land while, for some others, a real Nightmare.
I could write pages and pages discussing and arguing both scenarios, but have no time and I am not in a mood to do that.
My advice to you is, be prepared. Again, "half a glass full of water, is also half empty"

I agree with the Germanic Bobbyb (did you change the flag pic?)

Farima - theres many posts discussing this topic if you want to read more. It all depends on your current situation, your propensity to grab risk by its horn and some luck.

Get the thing first then worry. For anyone to have commenced the process he/she must have thought it a good dream. Don't allow situation to sway you now. Hold on tight mate.

Hi,

Suppose you reach a conclusion out of the discussions that it is a 'nightmare', are you going to change your mind

Just for your Information. If it is of no interest to you, just ignore this post:
As, I am from the UK, I follow these posts and many others.
If it does interest anyone, then go ahead and read them and decide for yourself.

Personally, I am still ready and willing to immigrate, if it does happen within the time frame I planned for. If not......!!

This is what somebody posted on trackit.com to a question:
trackitt.com/canada-discussion-forums/federal-skilled-workers/477993957/comparison-of-uk-and-canada

There is a lot of comparison on britishexpats.com. Both from those who prefer either Canada or UK.

I'd go with UK 'cause it has more opportunities despite its known problems. But I'm content with Canada too.

Canada lacks culture and class and it's not mere words unfortunately. I don't stress on people that don't go to theaters in masses or smth like this, but rather poor ethics, professional culture and general lameness which will be affecting all your life while you're there.

1) lifestyle - UK wins if you're not a nature and open spaces freak, more to choose from for your liking, close to Europe with all blows and whistles-- center of the western world. Canada is sleepy and mundane except very few places and adheres to boring work/sleep suburban lifestyle. Also 2-3 week vacations for most jobs at start suck.

2) skip

3,4,5) it depends of course, but overall UK has much more diverse job market, pound is stronger currency than CAD (and it's important when you travel or want to buy home in some other place).

For instance, when you travel to Canada from UK you feel rich, from Canada to UK or Europe-- like a poor slob. The same stands for real estate. For instance, when someone financially well from UK can buy 2 homes in Canada if required, the other similar person in Canada won't buy even single house in UK. But both can buy 1 home in their country. So you will be in position of poor relative to that person anyway if you're from Canada. That's in general of course.

BobbyB - no offence but as a DIE HARD NOW CANADIAN - I beg to differ BIGGGGGGGGGGG with u on the following points :::

1) UK is TOO TOO TOO SMALL compared to CANADA ( If Canada is a house then UK is the TOILET in that house)

2) Sure - UK has more culture and history than Canada - but BORING - I think the whole world thinks the BRITISH to be the most Boring and Dull of all western people - including the British accent which is matter of joke and ridicule in Canada

3) Everything in the UK is very small compared to Canada - extremely small houses, small cars, small roads and even the Food Quantity is very very small - probably because UK is very poor compared to Canada and cannot afford big things

4) British people are crazy to migrate to Canada in very large numbers - in turn Canadians are least bothered about moving to UK - comparison wise - BELIEVE me it is VERY EASY for Canadians to go and live in Europe if they want no problem

5) Salary wise - 35,000 pounds is considered a very good salary in UK (as per the UKBA website)- which is almost $60,000 dollars a year. Nobody is Canada will say that $60,000 is a good salary - usuually $100,000 is considered a good salary here - this shows that SALARY LEVELS in the UK are VERY LOW

6) The Weather in UK sucks - raining, boring , depressing etc etc etc

7) Last but not the least - if it werent for generous help of Canada and USA during World War 2 - UK would by now have been a German Colony - it cant even stand and fight for its own since the 20th century - always begging to USA and Canada for help - food, money, security (Marshall Plan)

SO Sorry BobbyB - you cant even compare the 2 - if Canada is Good, UK is probably getting past the OK category !!!

Thank You Cansun, for your views. I am not going to argue with you. By the way, just for your information, above posts are not my personal views. I have only posted them here from links from various other sites. All I have done is researched a lot myself and heard a lot about it from 4 uncles who are Canadian Citizens.
By the way, if I may remind you, are you the person who posted this sometimes back.(Link below).

Glad to see someone out there recognizes US effort for almost a century, mostly you hear other side of the story. Coming back to topic, you will see few North American's (US / Canadians) moving to UK but you can see large number of Brits moving out of UK mostly to Australia/Canada or US..... This might offer insight but again it's your own choice, you can't generalize it's what works for you?
