IRCC told me to start online. But I didn't. Now I want to start in the next semester in a different DLI. How should I explain my situation to them?

My classes were to start in September 2020. In August, IRCC informed me to start online class. But I didn't do it because of some factors like: different time-zone, sick family member etc. It all sounds like excuse but I was so confused at that time.

Now, I want to start study in a different DLI from January 2021. I made application to that DLI.

But how should I inform this to IRCC?

Note: My current study permit status is "still processing."

The fact that they granted you Approval in Principle (asking you to start online) means your application is likely to be positive. What you should do, in case you haven't already done so, is to apply to defer your admission with the school that was supposed to begin in September. If they defer it to January, when IRCC eventually approves your application and you are able to come to Canada with the deferred LOA, present the deferred admission letter for January, which is what you used to apply for SP, but change your DLI once you come in and notify IRCC online of your change of DLI. You don't need their approval to switch DLI; you only need to notify them that you switched within 150 days of switching. If you inform them now that you intend to switch when you are not yet in Canada, trust me, it will ruin your plans. And note that you are not obliged to inform IRCC that you deferred your admission. It is between you and your DLI, provided the deferment is not more than 150 days. If it is, then you have to notify IRCC. If you haven't requested a deferment LOA for January from your initial DLI, please do that now to avoid upending your plans for 2021 - my 1 cent advice.
