Hi all,

My convocation ceremony is on June and I wish to invite my father. Currently, I do not have any significant saving on my bank a/c. However, I have a job offer from March onwards. I am a permanent resident and my wife is also a recently came to Canada (I sponsored her).

My father is a widowed, retired, living with my brother and his family, and will be applying visa from New Delhi visa office. He has enough fund in his bank account and receives regular pension from government.

I can make a letter from my university (University of Waterloo) describing my degree completion and convocation detail. I have documents that proves our relationship (birth certificate, national ID, relationship certificate and passport). And other documents that is mentioned in cic webpage.

Can anyone suggest me how can I make my case. Moreover, other than the standard documents (as mentioned in cic webpage) what are additional documents that I may submit to make the case strong.

Hi,

1. Will your dad apply after you start working? Or shortly?

2. Is your wife working?

For questions 1 and 2: Do note that for a TRV, it is not necessary for the host to provide financial documents. The applicant must prove that s/he has adequate finances to support the visit.

3. For how long will your dad visit?

4. Does your dad get other retirement benefits? Does he have government pension funds which he has not withdrawn (eg: EPF/PPF/gratuity/LIC)?

5. Does your dad have other responsibilities or commitments that would ensure he must return after XX date? Employment or business post retirement, family commitments, voluntary or social work, etc?

6. Does your dad own or lease property? Residential/commercial/land?

Cheers

I am thinking to apply as soon as I start my work. I will be starting from March 1 and we wish him to be here by June 04. So for the time being, we are thinking to apply by early April.

2. Is your wife working?

No she is not. She is a recent PR. She arrived he on Dec. 15.

For questions 1 and 2: Do note that for a TRV, it is not necessary for the host to provide financial documents. The applicant must prove that s/he has adequate finances to support the visit.

Thanks for this info. I was also, wondering this stuff.

3. For how long will your dad visit?

He will be be from June 04 to July 02 (less than a month).

4. Does your dad get other retirement benefits? Does he have government pension funds which he has not withdrawn (eg: EPF/PPF/gratuity/LIC)?

Yes he has his pension fund that he has nominated by brother to receive it (In Nepal you can nominate a person to receive such benefit after death)

5. Does your dad have other responsibilities or commitments that would ensure he must return after XX date? Employment or business post retirement, family commitments, voluntary or social work, etc?

Not really. other than receiving pension + benefit he is not involve in any short of things. He just spend his days meting his friends and relatives

6. Does your dad own or lease property? Residential/commercial/land?

Nope. He has already passed everything to my Brother. FYI: my brother has a decent job in Nepal and has some stock investment as well. He will write a supporting documents, mentioning he needs my father to be with him in Nepal, which actually is very true.

Hi,

It's not necessary to book flight tickets. However, as your dad does not have strong ties to Nepal, it' may help if you book refundable tickets (date change possible).... and submit copies with his TRV application.

Same for overseas travel medical insurance.

Do prepare a day-by-day itinerary of activities/places he plans to visit with expense estimates (airfare/local travel/sightseeing/etc) + prove that he has the finances for this visit.... especially as you will only start working from March. Hence, your dad must prove that he can pay for his visit.

I would not submit any documents that state your dad has nominated your brother. Instead do submit proofs that he has been receiving pension since XX months + bank statements for this.... and prove that he depends on this pension/his other financial investments for his expenses.

Your dad's ties to Nepal are not strong. You must submit other reasons for him to return by July 2 along with evidence.

Again, it would've helped if your dad owned these properties/land. Does your dad have any Power of Attorney to represent your brother for these properties/land? Does your dad manage these properties/land on behalf of your brother?

Any evidence that your dad must be with your brother?
