Background: My elder brother (44) is a schizophrenic patient for more than a decade. My parents looks after him. He did a job until 2015. Since then he doesn't do any job and mostly stays home. He is being treated by doctor in Singapore and undergoes medication. My parents and brother are citizens of Bangladesh. I want to invite them to Canada to visit me and my family. I believe my parents will get a super visa quite easily. But I have doubt about my brother.

The obvious question I have is:

Do they issue visitor visa (or any type) knowing the fact he is a schizophrenic patient?

Can he apply in medical ground to come here to consult a doctor?

Thanks in advance.

Generally speaking, to be approved for a visitor visa, he will need to demonstrate that he has strong ties to his home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. It tends to be more difficult to show ties if you are unemployed.

He can apply on medical grounds however you'll want to show significant funds to prove you can cover the costs of any treatment out of your own pockets since they won't be covered under the health care system and private insurance won't cover pre-existing conditions. Hard to say if applying on medical grounds will help or hurt his case. Might make CIC more concerned you want to keep him here long term.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I know it's a two sided sword. My parents can show fund for the treatment that's not a problem. The only tie he can show is some properties in his name. Will that work?

I don't think any of us can tell us if that will be enough. It might or it might not.
